      Equations are lots of symbols put together to work something out.

      Scientists, mathmaticians and engineers have to work out difficult equations (sums) but instead of writing the words, we give the words a symbol and that helps to make things a bit easier. You will learn more about equations in science and maths, and see why they are important in solving a problem.
