• Question: How did the thorny devil get there spikes?

      Hi!

      Thorny Devils look really cool! I think they adapted to be spikey as it means they don’t look good to eat! I’m sure there are other reasons why they need to be spikey! It means that they are safer.

      Hi Toby,

      Lauren gave a good explanation for why they might have their spikes: they offer protection from things that might want to eat them (predators). As for how, evolution or ‘survival of the fittest’ would explain how. Each generation the spikiest individuals would survive because they wouldn’t get eaten. Then they would pass on their genes for spikiness to their offspring.
