So far, no evidence has been found – and scientists have searched really, really hard to find signs of life in the Universe already. So far, nothing has been found for sure on the Moon, or Venus, or Mercury. At the very most, Mars seems to have signs that there was once water on its surface, and methane gases that look like the methane produced by the earliest life on Earth. Some meteorites that have come from Mars also contained a few signs that maybe small bacteria once lived on Mars.
The Universe is still so much bigger than we are able to see, though. With technology getting better and better every year, I am going to hazard a guess and say ‘Yes’ to your question, Sophia and Scarlett! There are clearly signs out there that we’ve found in only the last 20 years. With another 994 years, who knows what our astronomers will discover!
Science and technology is moving so fast, and we are learning so much, that I don’t think it will be too long before we can explore very distant parts of our universe in the search for life. The big question is, if we do find life, will we recognise that it is life at all? Hmm…
So 3001 is 985 years away. A lot will change in that time and we are probably talking about your great great great great great great great great great great grandchildren by this point!
There are many scientists looking for life in space, but space is a VERY big place, and it can take hundreds of years to move around! I think a lot will change on Earth in the next 985 years, as that timescale is pretty big. Just think how much has changed since the year 1031, 985 years ago. I’m sure if you told anything living then that people in the future would talk to each other with a small bit of equipment, or would fly aeroplanes then I’m sure they would have thought you were mad!
