You need GCSEs in Science and as well as Maths and English at Grade 4/5. It depends then whether you want to do an apprenticeship or go to college to learn more theoretical knowledge. With most careers, you can always work your way up, learning as you go.
There is a lot of competition for jobs in science so the more qualifications that you have in the right area the more chances that you will have of becoming a scientist… of course learning on the job is also an option especially as new areas of science are being developed
