• Question: What is meant by electromagnetic radiation? How can light be a form of radiation?

      Light is made up of waves and particles (in fact both at the same time called wave-particle duality!), known as photons. Photons are small packets of energy, a bit like a box contains objects. As long as something has photons in it, it’s radiating, since that’s what radiation actually is – a form of energy. Electromagnetic radiation is just a term to describe these photon based radiation – such as visual light, ultra-violet, radio wave, etc. These come together on the electromagnetic spectrum.

      To be honest, this is a mystery to me…I’m learning from the other scientists here! I should have listened better when in my physics class 30 years ago!
