• Question: if the gravitational pull of a black hole is so strong, could it split an atom, and if so could it cause a constant nuclear explosion, as they are constantly sucking stuff into them?

Fantastic question! You are quite right – the gravitational pull in a black hole is large enough to pull an atom apart. In fact, we can break atoms apart even here on earth! This happens because atoms are “glued” together by an energy called the “binding energy”. As long as you put in more energy than this, you can break the atom apart. And yes, this process releases energy. Depending on which atom is breaking apart, you get different amounts of energy. Black holes are scary stuff!

      Sounds like a good hypothesis!
