Nobody knows. There are so many possible answers. One of them is the universe will collapse in on itself, a bit like letting the air out of a balloon (the big crunch), the other is the universe will get so big that it will freeze over (the big freeze). Another is the universe will eventually expand and tear apart, a bit like a balloon popping (the big rip). There is another that the universe will never end!

No one really knows and there are lots of competing theories out there as to how the universe will end, if indeed if actually has a defined end rather than slowly dying. All matter decays over time so eventually there will just be a sparse soup of particles and radiation that remains but if you’re left wondering how this will affect us…. it wont because earth is likely to have been vapourised by the dying sun suddenly expanding into a red fireball…. in about 6 billion years time. Don’t worry this is just another theory and if it’s right it’s highly unlikely that there will be any humans left to see it anyway!

      I honestly haven’t a clue, but I hear there’s a restaurant there!
