The cold is a virus, and you can catch it through close contact with someone who has a cold (it can be found in the air droplets from when someone sneezes or coughs near you), or it can live on surfaces (like on a light switch) for 2 days after someone with a cold has touched them. The best way to prevent it is to keep away from people with colds, and to wash your hands!
