I’m not sure that we are encouraging anyone to pollute the air but think maybe you mean encouraging people to stop polluting? We have to explain to people why it is a bad idea and show then what the alternatives are and how these are better for the environment.

We encourage air pollution through our lifestyles – it is easy to jump in car compared to catching a bus and where I live, cycling isn’t seen as a reasonable way to travel. We eat food which has taken lots of energy to make (i.e. all the food a cow eats) and lots of energy to be transported to our dinner plate.

Well, I don’t know if we encourage air pollution, but I know what you mean. The combustion engine is likely the biggest contributor to air pollution worldwide (i.e., burning of fossil fuels for turning engines).
