This is a fractal question, which is to say, no matter how more specific your question gets the answer is always the same–no. Do we truly understand the earth or oceans or marine mammals or marine mammals or killer whales or killer whale breeding, etc? There is SOOO much to know, we will never truly understand something until you can write an equation which perfectly describes it–and you’d be hard-pressed to write an equation that can predict killer whale breeding with 100% accuracy. A scientist’s goal is not to predict things at 100% accuracy, but to be ‘good enough’–good enough for conservation or whatever another purpose you might have!
