  A lot of ‘long term’ trends in pollution will give a scenario running from the 1970’s and demonstrate that the environment has improved dramatically with better technology and tighter regulation. However if these trends are extended back before the industrial revolution started you would see that we still have a very long way to go to reduce current pollution levels to where they were.
