Bruno Silvester Lopes answered on 11 Jul 2023:
Yes. As time passes I believe I am acquiring more skills and learning new concepts. Hard work leads to success without any exceptions but you also have to be passionate about it. I’ve already discovered 55 novel things and worked with approx. 230 scientists around the world. I dont think of success, I just do my work and see to it that people are cured/saved as a result of it. I’m very proud of all my colleagues and friends who are so supportive of our work and work very hard. In 2019, I also discovered some new bacteria. They are called as Acinetobacter terrae, Acinetobacter terrestris. They are from the environment. Acineto=something that cant move, terrae=earth/land, terrestris =from the earth. I’ve also discovered viruses that can kill bacteria which can be used for disease prevention.

I’d like to think I’m pretty successful already – I get to do a job every day that I enjoy and that helps people!

I agree with Sophie!
I hope that I can continue have success and I guess crucially that will in part come from the day to day experience that come naturally as you continue to be involved with science. Always more to learn and discover that can help continue a feeling of success.

I think it depends on how you measure success, but I’ve had successes in my career and I hope this will continue as I take on new challenges and develop.

I think Iām successful now. I have a career that I love, and family and friends around me. That is my measure of success.

Hannah Scholes answered on 12 Jul 2023:
I like to hope I’m fairly successful already… I’ve finished my GCSEs, A levels, my undergraduate degree and some top-up modules, and I’m in a job that I enjoy, and have friends and family that I love. š
I would love to get a place on the Scientist Training Programme (STP) and move a little more into clinical science, or perhaps do a PhD if I get the chance, though. -

I would say I am successful in my life at the moment and have been at every stage of my career. Right now I have a job that gives me great satisfaction and I have a wonderful family life too.

For me, success is a journey and not a destination. So each day is met with gratitude for where I am and with who at that point in time. Tomorrow is not guaranteed so make each day count!
