      It depends whether your thyroid is over-active or under-active. An under-active thyroid is caused by your thyroid not producing enough thyroxine (a hormone) can make you feel tired and lacking in energy. I think it can also result in weight gain. It can be treated by taking thyroxine supplements. An over-active thyroid has problems as well and in the long run can cause damage to your heart. Either an over or under active thyroid can sometimes cause a bulge in your neck when the thyroid swells, known as a goitre.
