About the Health Zone

Health is all about how well our minds and bodies function. As this is pretty important, people have been studying health for many thousands of years.

Many health scientists research diseases, helping to save and improve millions of lives. Take the scientist Edward Jenner, who developed a vaccine against smallpox, wiping out the disease world wide. Vaccines also helped reduce other serious diseases, such as: polio, measles and tetanus.

In this zone there is a scientist developing new ways to deliver drugs and make sure they go to the right place in your body, a scientist using robots to grow skin cells in the lab and investigate the causes of cancer, and a scientist working in a hospital using radio waves and strong magnetic fields to look at your internal organs and skeleton. There is also a scientist looking at what your DNA can predict about you risk of getting a heart attack, and another who wants to understand why having asthma can make catching a cold very dangerous.
