Ribosomes are one of the key components of cells. They are responsible for building proteins in the cell. They are able to read messenger-RNA (which is a copy of a segment of DNA) and determine which protein building blocks (amino acids attached to transfer-RNA) need to be brought together and in which order. Once the Ribosomes finish their work, the proteins go off and get folded and modified by other cell components to make the finished, mature protein.
