• Question: do you think that your five a day is not a very good lifestyle to follow considering lots of people don't like it, there are chemicals and water pumped into our fruits and veg, some people are allergic to them and we don't grow our vegetables properly.

      Hi Ella!
      Some of the food products are changed nowadays by the manufacturers. For example, some producers change the DNA of soya, tomatoes, corn and other vegetables to make them tougher to diseases, not allergic to people or give them a nicer appearance and quality. It is not always a bad thing. In any case, we need to carefully select what we eat, better to go for the organic products. Vegetables and fruits are very important for our health, they contain vitamins and antioxidants, which boost our immune system and protects us from certain diseases. I wasn’t very fond of fruits and vegetables when I was younger, but I tried to find other ways to eat these with pleasure, like in smoothies and juices, or eat them with something I like (for example fruits with yogurt and honey).

      I think it is strange that you say ‘most people don’t like it.’ Most people I know love fruit and veg!
      It is true that chemicals are used when growing fruit and veg, but this is often for the best, otherwise they would go off quickly, especially as much of our fruit and veg comes from all over the world. Some chemicals are used to stop the fruit and veg getting diseases. But, none of these chemicals should be bad for us, so its not to worry about.
      If somebody is allergic to a particular fruit/veg then luckily there are plenty more out there I’m sure they can have.
      Remember sometimes you might be eating veg without realising like on pizza and pasta, or having fruit in juices. These can count too!
      Also, as you get older, tastes change so you might begin to like fruits and veg you didn’t like before -if not it’s actually down to your genetics that you don’t like them.
