In general, I have heard that in America, they have much more funding for science and research, hence they have better facilities. However, having personally worked in both countries, I can say that this doesn’t necessarily mean everything in America is better than in Britain. For instance, I have access to much better facilities and high tech equipment here than I did at the institute in Florida, even though the one in Florida was much newer!

I think there are many factors that you have to take into consideration, ranging from how much money your own boss has, how much money your institute and university has and also how friendly the people in your university are so that they would let you use their facilities.
