I’ve worked a couple of different jobs so far – I had a lot of part time jobs in school and college (golf caddy, personal trainer, DJ, guitar teacher) and I’ve worked as a doctor in several different hospitals. I’m currently working as a medical researcher, writing computer software to diagnose diseases, and I feel like its a really good fit for me. I like thinking of new ways to use computers to solve medical problems, like detecting cancer on chest xrays. If I had to be something other than a scientist or a doctor, I think I’d quite like to be a builder – recently we’ve been renovating our flat and its very satisfying to see how all the hard work comes together in the end.
I recommend trying as many job options as you can, spend some time thinking about what you’d like to do, and contact people in that career to see if they have any advice, or even if they have an opportunity to join them for work experience

Someone who reviews restaurants and holidays- it would be great to just eat out and go on holiday for a living!

Honestly probably still this job. I love it and don’t want to do anything else.

This is my favourite job, it combines cosmetic science and education. I do wish I had trained as a teacher but I get to interact with schools as part of STEM

I like to do a combination of jobs – I get bored doing just one thing.

So, if I could, I’d probably combine working in a lab, with being a pilot and taking people on tours to see amazing natural wonders.

Sometimes it’s the perks around the job which can be great – I once worked picking mushrooms and the canteen was brilliant – awesome cake, cooked breakfasts; cheap mushrooms to take home and we got to listen to music whilst working (this doesn’t happen in all jobs!)

Although my job can be stressful and busy, I love the way I get to do a lot of different things- no two days are the same- so I think I’d stay doing this job as a lecturer and bioengineering researcher.

I really enjoy the job I am in! I like that two days are never the same and that I get to research lots of different topics and work with lots of people from different backgrounds. It’s also great to know that I am making a difference in peoples life, whether that be making them feel better or getting them healthier. But, I think it would be great to be a travel writer! I’d love to travel the world, exploring different places, learning about their cultures and of course trying the food!

This has been my favourite job so far, but I’d love to do something cool with travel. I wanted to be a pilot when I was younger, that or Doctor Who, but maybe a globe trotting scientist finding new bacteria and making new antibiotics/antimicrobial treatments. That would be amazing!

I would love to be a Biomedical Scientist. Unfortunately, because I didn’t know about Biomedical Scientists when I was at school, I didn’t choose the right degree. So now I’m a clinical scientist who gets to work alongside biomedical scientists, which is nearly as good.

A lab-based biochemist. Or an engineer. Anything requiring some hands-on problem solving.

I would still love to do what I do now which is teach alongside research. But if I was not doing this I would probably be in a Maths related role as I found Maths very interesting at secondary school and A-levels

ANY job?? That’s a hard one! I’d love to do field work in different countries. Like full-time. I did field work for 2 weeks in the Colombian rain forest to collect leaves from different plants a few years back and really, really enjoyed it. And I love travelling, so that’s another plus!
