I’ve never cut anyone open – this would be the job of either a forensic pathologist or an anatomical pathology technician. I can imagine that those dealing with young people would find it incredibly difficult though, it’s tragic when people die young.
We will undertake a postmortem on any individual where we believe there might be a suggestion of a suspicious or unexplained death. That then includes from the youngest to the oldest.
I have not cut open any person myself, but I have dealt with and analysed specimens taken from young persons p.m. as part of a criminal case investigation. The youngest person was a baby merely a few weeks old. A very, very sad case which I shall never forget.
