• Question: why don't we remember things from when we were born

      Good question! There are some people in my lab who research how the brain changes as you grow from a baby to a child. No one is completely sure why we can’t remember things from when we are babies, but there are a few theories. One is that our brain isn’t developed enough to allow us to store information about things we see and do for a long time. We know that babies can remember things for a short period of time, but for some reason these memories fade after a while. Once children reach the age of 5, they are able to remember things for much longer because their brains have developed more, which is probably why your earliest memories are around this age (or a bit earlier).
