Scars are areas of fibrous tissue that replace normal skin after injury. Basically when you heal after a big injury the cells don’t line up perfectly with the rest of the skin and this causes the difference in colour and lump effects you can sometimes see.

The skin is not the only thing we can scar however. Any organ can be scarred and it will reduce its effectiveness.

A great video explaining everything is here (it really does explain everything really well):

Getting scared is sometimes a good thing! In the past when there were many more dangerous things around (like predators), being scared warned us that a situation was dangerous and we should avoid it otherwise we might get hurt or even killed. It’s an inbuilt response we have and that’s why sometimes it’s hard to stop yourself being scared of something.

Being scared can cause something called the ‘fight or flight response’, where our bodies prepare themselves for having to take action (either fighting or running away) to avoid something bad. A part of our brain called the amygdala is responsible for emotions, and it controls when we feel fear. It helps to send signals to the rest of your body that mean you will be able to run away faster or fight harder if you need to. That’s why your heart rate goes up when you’re scared – it sends lots more blood and oxygen to your muscles so they will be able to work hard 🙂

I think it’s a reflex reaction to the unexpected. Being scared is suppose to be natural as we are born with instincts to be able assess danger and threats and this can often lead to being scared. There’s thwe un natural typse of fear which we kinda put in ourselves based on memories or films or stories etc. This type is more of a mind set and can usually be overcome with therapy.
