Blue is a short wavelength light. During a clear day, the molecules of the air scatter blue light the most. This is the reason for the sky appearing blue.

The blue colour will also appear blue-er directly above you and paler near the horizon because at the horizon the light has had further to travel after going through the atmosphere, which means that the blue is less dominant and the colours are more evenly scattered, making the light look white again!
