The hardest part of my job is working on my own. I’m a team worker, I like working with other people and am most productive when I can chat with other people about my ideas and problems. However, often large parts of my work are spent with me working entirely by myself, so my best times come when I get to go to conferences and outreach events to talk to other scientists and people about my research. I don’t think this happens as much with scientists who are part of a big lab or research group, but because I am part of a very small tribe of scientists looking at geothermal questions by mixing two or more disciplines together (interdisciplinary) I can find it difficult to find someone else who is just as involved in my question as I am. That can be a little lonely sometimes.
