Great question. Not an expert on immune system, but there a couple of reasons why it (including white blood cells) will not effectively fight cancers. Firstly cancer cells originate from healthy cells – white blood cells are programmed to only fight foreign invaders. Secondly – the cancer cells will adapt ways to beat the immune system – for instance they grow so fast that they will overwhelm any immune response. However immunotherapy is promising field for cancer research – either by stimulating the immune system so it is more powerful or by introducing artificial immune components to join the fight.
