Snot, or nasal mucus, is a mix of water and proteins naturally created by your body as a protection for your lungs to gather up bits of dust, dirt, bacteria and other nasties. When it has less water in it, it feels thicker (we often think of this a phlegm – but its still the same stuff, unless you have an infection) and when it dries out, the mucus becomes snotters!
