Haha a geo-baker is someone who bakes cakes with some kind of geology influence – either in decoration or how they are actually constructed. Every year the Geological Society of London holds a geology inspired baking competition called the #geobakeoff (check out this link: https://blog.geolsoc.org.uk/2017/06/16/the-2017-great-geobakeoff-the-results/) where people all over the country try and bake cakes that meet several geology themes – be they things you find in geology, like geodes; to famous geological films, like Jurassic Park; to places that are famously geological, like Yellowstone. I didn’t compete last year for various reasons, but I’m very much looking forward to this year’s competition, usually announced just before Easter (so soon!). Anyone can enter by baking a geological cake and submitting a photo to the Geological Society, and often the cakes are sold in the baker’s school or workplace to help raise money for charity too. I won the volcano geobakeoff competition hosted by the Geological Society for the launch of Lego Volcano, when I made a volcano cake that ‘erupted’ powdered sugar ash and had an m’n’m magma chamber!
