The journey from bacteria to human took millions of years, and required stages of evolution. So maybe the question is then why are not there more human like animals who evolved from other animals? Well probably the answer is that humans are far too successful, Neanderthals shared the Earth with us for some time and were probably just as smart as us, but for some unknown reason they did not survive. The closest relatives we have are chimpanzees and bonobo apes.
