I think humans were always curious about the world and experimented with better ways to make tools and eventually grow animals and crops. In ancient times everyone who studied the world was a philosopher, and some philosophers were more interested in the natural world. These natural philosophers taught students and wrote books, and after many generations of teachers and students people began to do experiments, and became the scientists of today.
