I like to have a good work-life balance, my job is important to me but my world outside my job is actually more important to be honest. That being said there are some weeks that I am so busy that I do need to do some work outside of my normal working hours. I don’t work Fridays but I find myself dipping into work on those days sometimes.

I think of my job as more like a mission than a job–I’m working where I’m working because I believe in what I’m working on.

I do spend some time outside of work doing work, but I also have second and third jobs (and fourth…). I do this because I want to.

But most of my time is spent taking care of my kids. They come first.

I think for most people science is more than a job. For me it is like this too, but I make sure I balance work and life. I work normal hours doing “work”, which is things that could be difficult and I know I have to do, but I also do some reading and experimenting on my own time, but mostly because I am interested and it is fun.

I really try to put family first though, because it is the most important thing in life.

I don’t think that dedication = numbers of hours spent at work. I try to do my 9-5 most days and then I think as I get further on in my PhD i will spend more time at work. But its important to work and have a life outside of it too!
