      Wow – difficult question to answer – hopefully not soon!

      There are all sorts of things that could happen. Probably the world will become unable to sustain life for humans before it “ends”.

      But I think the simple answer is that no-one really knows!

      John’s right, that’s a huge question and very difficult to answer!

      If you mean the end of the “human world” it’ll probably be an ecological disaster where the Earth just can’t cope with the pressure we put on it. But then there’s always something that’ll survive – like cockroaches!

      As for the whole world ending, I guess we might be swallowed up by a black hole… but I hope that neither of us are around to see that!

      Hi fakebob,

      In about 5 billions years time the Sun will become a red giant and swallow the Earth, so that really be the end of the world. But it’s very unlikely that humans will be around then – we’re only 200,000 years old as a species now.

      Hi fakebob. There is a US preacher (Harold Camping) who keeps predicting specific dates for the end of the world. Most recently it was supposed to end on 21st May 2011 at 6pm precisely! Clearly that did not happen and this is not the first time he has made that prediction and been wrong. His theories aren’t based on science and so hence they are not very reliable. I would imagine the end of the world would be a long long time away yet.
