Our blood has red cells that are in charge of carrying oxygen from the lungs to other organs. These red cells are very rich in proteins with red-coloured iron that help in the transport of oxygen and make our blood red. Many books have drawings in which blood from veins is shown as blue, but that is not real. However, some animals such as octopuses or crabs do have blue blood because their blood cells have copper instead of iron.
