I didn’t mean to become a scientist. I really enjoyed science so I took it for my A levels. I really liked biology so I decided to do a degree in it at uni. I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I was older, I just liked science. I thought I wanted to be an author at one point and a teacher and a doctor. But I just kept taking subjects I enjoyed and it’s only after I had been working in science for a few years that I had a moment and realised I was an actual scientist.
It’s a bit like you start jogging for the first time and enjoy it so start going more frequently and then one day someone says something like “You must be fit, you’re a runner” when you look back and go, yes I didn’t realise but I guess I am a runner! You never meant to be and you can’t put your finger on when you actually became a runner but you are one now. It’s a bit like that but with being a scientist.
