For me, I had to do a degree, a three year undergraduate degree in BSc Biology. The BSc means Bachelor of Science, which is the name of the degree like GCSE. I then had to do a one year MSc in Microbiology. An MSc stands for Master of Science. People will sometimes do a PhD straight after a BSc but it’s good to do an MSc in between because quite often in the MSc you do a big research project which is great practise for a PhD.
PhDs are like being paid to do your GCSEs so it’s more like a job application than a uni application.
