Great question Shamita07, I think this is possibly tthe best question I’ve been asked so far!

In science you need some confidence, but not necesserily confidence to be able to stand in front of lots of people and talk. When you research something you usually become a worls expert at it, and know more than anyone else does – in that comes a certain kind of confidence as people wont ask questions or tell you things to make you look stupid as you know more than them about it, therefore you can be confident you are right.

I think I would have the confidence to stand up and show off my invention, but not because I like standing up in front of people and talking (because I don’t) but because I know that I know more than anyone else about it.

      Hey!

That’s a really good question and yes, I would. Being a scientist in a way is all about confidence. We have a solution to a problem and we use all sorts of different methods to prove why we think it’s the right (or wrong) solution. This is because we have to confident our results are correct. It’s also why you always repeat your experiments again and again.

Another big part of being a scientist for me is knowing how to present your work. You could have discovered the cure for cancer but unless you know how to tell people about it, and how to defend your work, then no-one will notice. If I were to invent something then I would be confident because I know my results, and I also know enough about my research to answer any unexpected questions that come my way (much like I’m a Scientist!).
