      Hi there!
Hay fever is really common with up to 25% of people suffering from it every year! It happens when the immune system becomes sensitized to things like pollen, dust or animal hair and an allergic reaction is triggered. Things that trigger an allergic response are called allergens and there’s lots of them out there! The allergic response involves the release of histamine, which causes itchy, watery eyes and sneezing. The lining of our nasal passages swell up too and we produce more mucus. All these things form part of our body’s defence mechanism against something it believes to be harmful, i.e. pollen, and act to ‘flush out’ the allergen to protect us. Hope this answers your question! 🙂
