This is a question I asked myself for many years. The method of using magnets has aready been done however not with cars with trains. The problems come from trying to control the magnet, it is quite difficult to create a magnet system that will allow you to control the postion, this is why you fins many, magnet trains on a rail. Also the level of magnatism needed to generate for lots of cars would be massive.
