It’s a bad habit I picked up from being an undergraduate…
I had to do a few all-nighters to finish my dissertation and I also worked night shifts at a cocktail bar to earn money, so I would drink lots of coffee to stay awake. Not very healthy.
I didn’t even like coffee before going to University!
Now I drink it to keep me going during the day, I love my research but some of the lab work can be a bit boring and repetitive and my concentration can wander, especially when I’m writing up results (it’s so easy just to click on facebook…). So coffee helps keep me focused and perks me up when I get a bit sleepy after lunch.
Unfortunately it’s a bit of an addiction. Not something I would recommend. I will quit when I’ve finished my PhD.
Honest!
