I think all of the grown-ups that I know have some problem or other with the school system, and they all think they know what to do to “fix” it. I used to be a teacher, so I’ve thought about it a lot, and I think that it’s not doing too bad a job if there are interested students like you in there. I do think it might be better to have a bit more flexibility and a lot less testing. It would be great if everybody could learn about the things that they found interesting at a pace that was right for them so that they didn’t have to feel like they were getting lost or like they were having to wait for people to catch up. All of that would be a lot of work, and you’d need good teachers who really wanted to do the best possible job.

I think there’s always way to better a system, and school is no different to this. In order to do that we should look at the schools in the world which are seen to have the ‘best education’ and these seem to be scandanavian schools like Norway and Finland. So they have some really interesting concepts like a lot more free time, they start school much later at age 6/7 and they don’t get homework! Compared to the UK that’s pretty radical!
