• Question: In the future, do you think artificial intelligence wiil rule and would that be a good or bad thing?

      This is a fascinating question and one which scientists and philosophers alike are thinking about a lot!

      Artificial intelligence is advancing at a very fast rate and we are building more and more intelligent robots. Whether they will rule or not, I don’t know. Whether it will be a good thing or not, I don’t know either! I think if we are careful, we can build new technologies that will help us greatly as we journey into the future. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see! What do you think?

      We are intelligent creatures – so intelligent that in coming decades we will have created computers with ‘Artificial Intelligence’ that will be smarter than us. It’s only a matter of time. This isn’t a bad thing though! We will use this advanced intelligence to solve many of problems, such as solving global warming and poverty.

      We will give more control of tedious and difficult tasks to computers, like driving cars and even doing the grocery shopping perhaps!

      I think if Artificial Intelligence is really intelligent, it will know that humans have to be treated with respect and so will be able to live with smart computers/robots in harmony 🙂 After all we will have been there creators.

      A very famous scientist who helped create the field of artificial intelligence, Marvin Minsky, once declared: ‘Will robots inherit the Earth? Yes, but they will be our children’.

      I see a future, where we not only depend on this advanced intelligence, but also merge with them – download the latest software update. We may wirelessly connect our minds to the internet, and everything else in the world, in essence becoming part of this super-intelligence. The future is promising, but it needs good scientists and artists and philosophers to take us there.

      Great question, Emmie.

      I think if artificial intelligence ruled, it would be bad. A lot of things that we do as humans are based on emotions, opinions and other ‘irrational’ or ‘subjective’ things. It is sometimes important to have opinions on things, as there is no right or wrong answer, what opinions would artificial intelligence have? And would you be able to reason with it? WHO KNOWS!
