It can range from the skin on your eyelids (0.5 mm or about the thickness of your fingernails!) to the skin on your palms and feet, which is almost 10 times as thick, at 4 mm or more.

Your skin is your largest organ and protects your body from anything unwanted getting in, keeps you warm, is tough to avoid cutting and tearing easily and helps you feel the world around you (through nerve endings).

What do you think is the second largest organ in the body?
