Great question! Bones are really cool. As you know, you can break them and somehow, they fix themselves with time.

What happens when someone breaks or fractures a bone is that all of a sudden a lot cells are broken and bits of bone come loose – releasing calcium in the area. This is an alarm for immune cells to come in, swell, and then clean up the damage. Along with other immune cells, Osteoclasts, which break down extra bits of bone come in and help reshape bone. Then Osteoblasts, which make new bone material come in and do thee job.

Both, bone-breaking/reshaping and bone-making cells help fix your bones. They live in the blood, bone marrow and in the membranes around your bones and muscles. By the end of a couple of months, a broken boned is mended! A job well done. 🙂 🙂
