• Question: What three things are the most important about toxicology?

      – Like all science, the most important thing to start with is a good question! This can require collaborating with other scientists in order to find out as much information as possible before you begin, and find out what we don’t yet know about the topic.

      – You need to be accurate, and try to keep things consistent. For example in toxicology you need to be sure you are using the correct concentration of a chemical, and that you keep this consistent.

      – You must keep track of information by recording the data in a lab book, making lots of notes about what you did during the experiment and how you did it. This will help you to understand the results you get from the experiment.

      (1) What the hazards of a substance are

      (2) Its route into the body i.e. is it toxic by inhalation, skin absorption etc

      (3) Its metabolic pathway and fate in the body – how does the body break it down and deal with it? What effects does it have on the body.
