Good questions Ryan, this is quite complicated.
Organophosphate (OP) compounds are the most widely used group of insecticides in the world. Organophosphate poisoning therefore most commonly results from exposure to insecticides or nerve agents.
organophosphate toxicity is not pleasant! OP causes the enzyme acetylcholinesterase to be blocked, this causes an excess of the compound acetylcholine at different nerveS in the body. acetylcholinesterase is critical for nerve function, so the irreversible blockage of this enzyme, results in muscle overstimulation.
Symptoms include muscle weakness, fatigue, muscle cramps, and paralysis.
