If you believe in evolution than it has to be the egg.

A chicken came from an egg. That egg came from a chicken…go back millions of years and the chicken looks a bit more reptilian (look at a chicken’s feet today and they are scaly) yet still hatches from an egg. Go back even further and it’s now a reptile, but still hatching out of an egg!

Hello, I have to agree with Stuart. I think the egg came first!

Yeah, I’d agree with Stuart, but I guess this answer assumes some kind of switch where something which isn’t a chicken lays an egg which contains a chicken, and evolution is a LOT more gradual than that – I don’t think anything’s ever given birth to anything which could be described as a different species. Even if you consider a horse and a donkey mating to give birth to a mule, it still doesn’t count as a different species as they’re all born infertile. Question is, which came first, the Chicken McNugget or the Egg McMuffin?!
