I believe you will have to first complete your 4 year medical school degree. Then you will have to do a 3 year residency program. If you then want to specialize, you need to do 3 years of specialised training in that particular area.

A long time! Like Lauren has said, it takes a minimum of 7 years. But you don’t have to do it all in one go. You can do your first 4 years at University and get a degree. Then, if you are interested in research you can do a PhD. After that you can do the 3 years of residency in a hospital and become a fully qualified paediatrician. Residency is where you actually work as a Junior Doctor. Don’t let the time frame put you off though! It’s a really rewarding job so if this job interests you then you should definitely go for it! Good luck!
