All the evidence points to the Earth being very old and the fossil record indicates that there were different creature alive at different times in the past. Exactly how the Earth got there, or how life started, is not fully understood, so I would never say someone was incorrect in having an alternative view.
I agree with Stuart, the earth was certainly created a really long time ago!
There are several major bits of evidence that support the Big Bang theory. One is the fact that the universe is still expanding, proven with something we call red shift. The second is something called cosmic microwave background radiation. The third is the huge abundance of different elements in the universe.
But like Stuart says; exactly how the Earth got here is not fully understood, so there are many alternative views.
I agree with the other scientists, there seems to be lots of evidence to show that the big band occurred. I also believe that the conditions that we find on Earth occurred by chance. When the Earth was first formed the conditions were very different to what we see today. The percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere was negligible and the seas were acidic. Over time as the organic landscape has changes, so to have the conditions on Earth. Only through these changes can life like we know it on Earth be supported. I don’t believe religious teachings that say that Adam and Eve appeared on Earth in the beginning. There would have been no oxygen so they would have died.
