  You do work very hard, but I think that is true for most jobs so that shouldnt put you off if you want to become a scientist. It is never too late to start working towards something you love. I like that getting good grades at school gives you the best chance to get into a uni of your choice and from there you are on the right road to being an amazing scientist.
