      The most polluting fossil fuel would be coal.

      First of all, in order to get the same energy, burning coal gives out the most carbon dioxide (CO2).

      Beside CO2, burning coal also gives out sulfur compounds and soot that are bad to the environment.

      Finally, the mining of coal often destroy the greenland surround it, which upset the ecosystem.
