Great question, no my dad is not a scientist and he never has been. He studied business at university and does lots of different jobs (but not a scientist). My mum is a type of scientist though! She studied pharmacy at university. Pharmacy is the science of how drugs work and how to make new drugs that help cure people of diseases. Now my mum works in a pharmacy shop and helps people to get the right medical drugs that they need or that their doctor has told them to get. Thousands of drugs leave her shop every day and she has to make sure that they are all going to the right people in the right doses, it’s a big responsibility!
No-one else in my family studied wheat, I got interested in that all by myself. It’s because I was really interested in plants during my university degree but I also wanted to help people. So I thought I would research wheat so that I could help people grow wheat in countries where there isn’t enough food.
