I don’t spend much time looking for insects but there are a few that eat the wheat plants so we have to try and make the wheat resistant to them. The main type is orange blossom wheat midge which is a tiny little flying insect that lays its eggs in the wheat whilst it grows. Then when the eggs hatch, the larvae (baby midges) eat the wheat plant from the inside out! Pretty gross and it ruins the wheat so we try and make wheat that the midges don’t like.
